Chase Claypool Reportedly a Potential Trade Candidate

Steelers WR Chase Claypool

Chase Claypool is on the trade block, according to a report by Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.

The report came out as Fowler talked about the Green Bay Packers and their need for a wide receiver. Green Bay is looking to acquire a receiver, and the first player he threw out as a possibility was Claypool. According to Fowler, many thought that Claypool was available for trade dating all the way back to the preseason.

“One player who makes sense is Pittsburgh’s Chase Claypool, who multiple execs believe was available in the preseason, though at a hefty price,” Fowler wrote.

Fowler notes that the rumors of Claypool being available have persisted around the NFL for a while. It is an interesting proposition, as Green Bay certainly needs a wide receiver. Meanwhile, the Steelers would not have an obvious replacement for Claypool with Calvin Austin only coming back likely against the Miami Dolphins.

The news comes out two days after Claypool posted a seven-catch, 96-yard performance with a touchdown against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to help lead the Steelers to an upset victory. If the price was hefty in the preseason, that price is likely back up to the original mark. In order for Claypool to be moved, Pittsburgh is likely looking for a day-two pick to pull the trigger.
