Steelers Daily: OL Struggles, Praise for Pickett

Published

on

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett is drawing praise for his preseason performance, but the Steelers offensive line isn’t getting the job done.

🏈 Despite a very busy offseason, the Steelers still have many of the same problems they had in 2021 writes Alan Saunders.

🏈 Nick Farabaugh says the Steelers need to look for external help to shore up their offensive line.

🏈 Mitch Trubisky wants more from the Steelers starting offense: “we hurt ourselves.”

🏈 Diontae Johnson was impressed by the way Kenny Pickett conducted the first-team offense.

🏈 Cam Heyward wasn’t thrilled with his No. 42 ranking on the NFL Network’s Top 100 Players of 2022 list. “Thanks for putting me on the list but this ain’t it! Back to putting in the work that matters,” Heyward tweeted.

🏈 NFL Network analyst Brian Baldinger broke down Kenny Pickett’s impressive performance against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday night. Baldinger is also very high on rookie inside linebacker Mark Robinson. “Mark Robinson is a nuclear explosion waiting to burst on every play … but it’s a controlled violence,” Baldinger said.

🏈 Robert Griffin III thinks Pickett “maximized his varsity reps” against the Jaguars. He also believes that Pickett is ready to play now. “He keeps winning over teammates with his production and competitiveness,” Griffin tweeted. “After working out with him before the draft, I saw his dedication, ability to make every throw and an advanced football IQ. Steelers have a good problem at QB.”

🏈 Pete Prisco of CBS Sports also believes Pickett should be QB1 right now. “Steelers should just start Kenny Pickett. Get on with it. Play the kid,” Prisco tweeted.

🏈 Former Steelers quarterback Josh Dobbs has been terrific in both of the Browns’ preseason games, according to Jake Trotter of ESPN. In two preseason games, Dobbs is 24 of 33 for 249 yards with two total touchdowns, no picks, plus 56 yards rushing. Dobbs had a nifty scramble against the Philadelphia Eagles in Sunday’s game.

🏈Steelers left tackle Dan Moore Jr. allowed five pressures against the Jaguars, according to Pro Football Focus. Overall, the offensive line surrendered 10 pressures. The run blocking wasn’t much better, as the Steelers rushed for only 24 yards on 14 carries, with 10 yards coming from a Trubisky scramble and 11 yards via a Steven Sims jet sweep.

🏈Warren Sharp of Sharp Football says Pickett and Mitch Trubisky are heading in vastly different directions. According to Sharp, of the 72 quarterbacks who have played in the preseason so far, Pickett ranks second in time to throw (2.3 seconds/attempts) and 65th in air yards/attempts (5.4 yds), while Trubisky ranks 67th in time to throw (3.1 seconds/attempts) and second in air yards/attempts (12.0 yds).

🏈Sharp also showcased just how bad Steelers left guard Kendrick Green was on Saturday night. To say the least, it was pretty brutal.
