Steelers DE Cam Heyward Leaves With Left Arm Injury

Steelers DL Cam Heyward

PITTSBURGH — Steelers’ star defensive end Cam Heyward left the team’s Sunday contest against the New York Jets with a left arm injury.

Heyward came off the field and appeared to grab the arm right away in pain after being stepped on. Trainers immediately came over to examine his arm, including his elbow, and tape it on either side.

The Steelers are already missing star outside linebacker T.J. Watt due to a pectoral injury that landed him on injured reserve. Losing Heyward could be a massive blow to what is a strong Steelers front seven. As of now, there is no status update, and he is deemed questionable to return at this point.

If Cam Heyward can not go, the Steelers would have Montravius Adams, Tyson Alualu, Chris Wormely, and DeMarvin Leal pick up the slack. It would also significantly uptick the work for starting defensive end Larry Ogunjobi. Either way, Pittsburgh can not afford to lose Heyward for the long haul given his importance to the team both as a leader and a player.

Before the Steelers took the field for the following drive, he did not come on the field to start the drive but had his helmet in hand. That signals he could potentially return.

UPDATE: Heyward has returned to the game with a brace on his left elbow.
