2025 NFL Draft
Steelers Heavily Scouting 2025 NFL Draft Quarterbacks
The Pittsburgh Steelers are heavily scouting quarterback prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft through the first three weeks of college football.
The Pittsburgh Steelers collegiate scouting staff has been busy over the first three weeks of the 2024 college football season, and thereโs a clear pattern emerging among the players the Steelers have seen in person. Through the first three weeks of the season, the Steelers have had scouts taking a look at four of the top seven quarterback prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft class, and one of them twice.
According to NFL Mock Draft Database, the top seven quarterbacks in next yearโs draft class are Georgiaโs Carson Beck, Coloradoโs Sheduer Sanders, Texasโ Quinn Ewers, Miamiโs Cam Ward, Texas A&Mโs Conner Weigman, Alabamaโs Jalen Milroe and Penn Stateโs Drew Allar.
The Steelers scouted Allar and Penn State during their Week 1 game at West Virginia, and also Sandersโ season opener against North Dakota State. In Week 2, the Steelers sent scouts to Texas play Michigan, catching up with Ewers. This past week, Steelers scout saw Sanders again during Colorado vs. Colorado State, as well as Milroe against lower-tier prospect Tyler Van Dyke from Wisconsin, and projected Day Three pick Noah Fifita from Arizona.
The Steelers do not have a quarterback under contract for the 2025 season, so no matter what happens with Justin Fields or Russell Wilson this season, they will almost certainly be in the market to select a quarterback at some point in the 2025 NFL Draft. Where that comes will have as much to do with how Fields and Wilson do as the perceived quality of the draft class, and where general manager Omar Khan might be able to find value at the position.
The Steelers have also hit multiple top talents at two other positions, as well. Theyโve seen three of the top six wide receivers in Arizonaโs Tetairoa McMillan, Texasโ Isaiah Bond and Colorado Stateโs Tory Horton. Theyโve also seen three of the top five cornerbacks early on, getting a good look at Coloradoโs Travis Hunter, Michiganโs Will Johnson and Arizonaโs Tacario Davis.
Of course, there Steelers likely scouted more than the eight games where their presence was reported, and the order at the top of the consensus big board will probably change a lot between now and next April.
