Steelers Injury Updates: Cam Heyward, DeMarvin Leal Healthy, Spillane Suffers Eye Injury

Cam Heyward

CINCINNATI — The Steelers are dealing with multiple significant injuries, but it seems that Cam Heyward and DeMarvin Leal have escaped significant injury. When Mike Tomlin ran down the post-game injury list, Cam Heyward and Leal were noticeably absent from the list. That stands as a good sign for the Steelers as they head back home against New England in a week’s time.

However, Robert Spillane did not return to the game after he suffered an apparent eye injury. It occurred on a weird screen play where Spillane collided with an offensive lineman on the Bengals. As such, his status is up in the air for future games from here on out.

Levi Wallace suffered an ankle injury and never returned to the field after he was banged up in the third quarter. In his place, Arthur Maulet got more time, as well as James Pierre, mixed into some plays. If he is out for a while, that could change up how the Steelers’ secondary plays.

The other injuries are T.J. Watt with an upper-body injury. ESPN reported that the Steelers believe Watt may have suffered a torn pectoral tendon in his left shoulder. Tomlin offered no further specifics on that injury.

Najee Harris is dealing with a left foot. That is the same foot that he injured in training camp. He described that injury as a lisfranc sprain, but there is no update on how severe that injury is at this time.

Pittsburgh came into the game healthy. Center Mason Cole briefly left the game with an ankle injury, but returned shortly after and played the rest of the game. Other notable injuries the Steelers are dealing with are Damontae Kazee and Calvin Austin III, both of whom are on injured reserve with their respective injuries.

The Steelers are battered and bruised out of a division battle, but they will have to refocus quickly as the Patriots are coming to time in just seven days.
