After an 11-year hiatus, the Backyard Brawl is finally returning this year. And when Steelers’ quarterback Kenny Pickett appeared on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, McAfee made sure to throw in a playful jab at the Pitt all-time leading passer as he started the interview by saying “eat sh*t Pitt.” Pickett responded by just tipping his white Pitt hat at McAfee.

McAfee played for West Virginia and was a part of the 13-9 game that prevented West Virginia going to the national championship in 2007, so his dislike for Pitt is probably more intense than other Mountaineers.

Even though McAfee is a Mountaineer, he still gave Pickett his due.

“You were (expletive) great to watch at the University of Pitt,” McAfee said. “All my friends that went to Pitt, massive fans of yours. When you got drafted to the Steelers, everybody went bananas.”

McAfee also praised Pickett for breaking Dan Marino’s passing records at Pitt.

“The amount of success he had at the University of Pittsburgh is unprecedented,” McAfee said. “He is the guy coming out of the University of Pittsburgh Panthers operation. And Pitt has kind of found a resurgence with him at the helm, so everyone loves him around the town.”

After the interview, Pickett thanked McAfee on Twitter and reminded him that he’ll see him on Sept. 1 when Pitt plays West Virginia at Heinz Field.

“Thank you to Pat McAfee and the fellas for having me on the show! Will work on the Wi-Fi for next time. See you 9/1 at Heinz,” Pickett tweeted along with adding #H2P at the end.
