New Steelers Signees Uniform Numbers Revealed

Steelers Markus Golden

The Pittsburgh Steelers have given out new numbers to newly-signed outside linebacker Markus Golden and wide receiver Cody Chrest. It comes after the team announced the signings of both players late last week after they bringing the team to 89 players. They still have one spot open on the 90-man roster.

Golden took the field for the first time in a Steelers uniform on Tuesday, and he is sporting No. 54. That number was worn by Ulysees Gilbert III for a long time, but Tae Crowder took the number late last season. He was released last week before OTAs. Other players in the team’s history such as Hardy Nickerson were standout players.

Chrest will wear N0. 25. That is an unusual number for a wide receiver, as is Hakeem Butler’s No. 21. However, the number was recently worn by Ahkello Witherspoon, who was released shortly after the 2023 NFL Draft. Chrest, an undrafted free agent out of Sam Houston State, will hope to use his speed as an edge to make the 53-man roster.

As Pittsburgh goes deeper into OTAs, they still have one roster spot open and could do a number more shuffling it around to their liking. Chrest and Golden join the group early on in the process and they are essentially not behind much at all during this stage of the offseason program.
