Steelers Re-Sign DT Larry Ogunjobi to Three-Year Extension

The Steelers are re-signing defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi to a three-year, $28.75 million contract that will keep him in Pittsburgh through the 2025 season, according to Adam Schefter.

Ogunjobi will be paid $21.75 million of that contract in the first two years of the deal, following a similar structure to what Pittsburgh has used in the past. Still, it is an expensive contract but will see Ogunjobi slot into the 5-technique spot as well as the sub-package 3-technique spot as a starter.

Ogunjobi dealt with nagging toe and knee injuries last year that limited his effectiveness. As such, he only put up 1.5 sacks in 16 games where he was hampered. However, Pittsburgh was impressed enough to want Ogunjobi back, who they signed in the summer last year.

Larry Ogunjobi is a huge piece to the defensive line, especially after Chris Wormley suffered a Torn ACL, knocking him out for the season and into free agency. Meanwhile, Tyson Alualu is 36 years old and there were no suitable replacements on the team. The market thinned out already in what was not a great class both in the NFL Draft and free agency, so the Steelers needed to jump on someone, and it ended up being an Ogunjobi reunion.

Larry Ogunjobi seems to be a significant contributor over the next few seasons. Pittsburgh is focusing on the trenches, with two signings there already, one at guard and now at defensive line. However, if he can stay healthy will be the biggest question for Ogunjobi moving forward after multiple injuries that have plagued his career in recent memory.

Ogunjobi suffered a significant lisfranc injury that forced a long-term deal with the Chicago Bears to be voided back in the 2022 off-season. He would then land in Pittsburgh on a one-year deal, and he has cashed in off that extension, earning just under $10 million a season.
