Steelers Get First Drive Touchdown For First Time in 14 Games

PITTSBURGH — The Steelers have exorcised one of their massive demons. For the first time in 14 games, the Steelers have scored an opening drive touchdown on their first drive of the game. The last time they scored a touchdown on an opening drive was when Mason Rudolph led the team down the field against the Detroit Lions in Week 10 of the 2021 season.

Kenny Pickett hit Najee Harris on a six-yard touchdown out of the backfield on a swing pass. Matt Canada dialed up a successful, efficient script that allowed Pickett to be comfortable and engineer the drive. It is also the first touchdown pass of Pickett’s career and the first touchdown reception for Harris this season.

It now snaps the longest regular season game streak without a touchdown, which was tied with the New York Giants. The Giants own the longest streak, as they did not score a touchdown this week on their opening drive.

As it stands, the Steelers currently lead the Buccaneers 7-0 in the first quarter. For a team that has an upset on its mind, it is about as good of a start as they could have possibly asked in this tough game.
