Steelers Sights and Sounds: Darnell Washington Works Blocking

Steelers TE Darnell Washington

PITTSBURGH — The Steelers OTAs continued on Thursday with number six of the OTAs practices that Pittsburgh is continuing to toil at on the South Side. On Thursday, there was a focus on some skills with the tight ends as Alfredo Roberts looks to round his group into shape.

Darnell Washington is the rookie that everyone wants to watch, of course. The rookie out of Georgia has explosive blocking highlights on his film. However, that does not mean that he still does not have work to do on that front. In fact, it might just be to the contrary on the other side of that coin as he looks to make an impact on day one out on the football field.

Meanwhile, the room with Pat Freiermuth, Zach Gentry, Connor Heyward, and Rodney Williams continues to round into form itself. The group has high expectations as some of the younger guys mature and they have a leader in Freiermuth entering his third year with the team.

In addition, the safeties got plenty of work on Thursday. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin continued watching the linebackers go to work during practices as well. This time, Tomlin took an interest in one specific player, however. It all happens to Tomlin’s expectations of the team being a physically imposing group.
