Steelers RB Darius Hagans

The Steelers are signing productive HBCU running back Darius Hagans, according to the Aaron Wilson of KPRC2.

Hagans was released by the Indianapolis Colts on June 1st, but now finds a landing spot in Pittsburgh. He comes out of Virginia State University, where he racked up 1012 rushing yards on 189 carries with 6 touchdowns in 10 games. Virginia State competes at the Division II level.

Hagans was a participant in the NFLPA Bowl and inked with the Colts after going undrafted. He worked out at Old Dominion pro day and the HBCU Combine attended by Omar Khan. Hagans ran a 4.47 40-yard dash, jumped 10-foot-5-inches on the broad jump, registered a 36-inch vertical, and posted 26 reps on the bench at the pro day.

Measuring in at 5-foot-11 and 207 pounds. He joins Alfonzo Graham as an HBCU running back from the 2023 NFL Draft class to land with the Steelers. The team now has six running backs on the roster after signing Hagans to the roster, with competition brewing for the RB3 spot. Hagans should factor into that equation.

The team released Cody Chrest to make room for Hagans on the roster. They signed offensive tackle Jarrid Williams to get the team to 90 players for the first time in the offseason period. Pittsburgh will resume Week 3 of OTAs on Tuesday with a mandatory minicamp occurring next week.
