The Steelers will sign outside linebacker Ryan Anderson to their 53-man roster, according to a report by Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

The signing of Anderson comes after he was elevated from Pittsburgh’s practice squad for their game against the New York Jets. Anderson played five snaps without registering a stat in that contest. Now, he will come off the practice squad to join the active roster properly.

Drafted the Washington Commanders out of Alabama in 2017, Anderson is a veteran with plenty of experience. He has racked up six career sacks and 39 total career pressures throughout that five-year career. The corresponding move from Pittsburgh has not yet been announced to clear roster space for Anderson.

Anderson joined the Steelers three weeks ago after he was signed to the practice squad after a tryout following T.J. Watt’s injury. He was suspended for the first six games of the 2021 season for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substance policy, and cut by the Giants two days later. So, this will be Anderson’s first time on an active roster since the middle of the 2021 season.

The Steelers current outside linebacker room is Alex Highsmith, Malik Reed, Jamir Jones, David Anenih, and now the newly elevated Anderson.
