Rashed, White, Johnson Among 24 Steelers Cuts Tuesday

The Steelers released 24 players on Tuesday in their continued effort to get down to their final 53-man roster, the team announced. Even after the first round of cuts, Pittsburgh still retains 57 players on the roster. Among those cuts is late camp standout Hamilcar Rashed Jr., second-year receiver Cody White, 2021 fourth-round pick Buddy Johnson, and more.

At wide receiver, White was joined by Tyler Snead and standout receiver Tyler Vaughns. For now, there are seven receivers on the Steelers roster. Pittsburgh also released tight ends Jace Sternberger and Pine-Richland alum Kevin Rader to get down to three tight ends. On the offensive line, it was William Dunkle, Adrian Ealy, Chaz Green, John Leglue, and Ryan McCollum were released. They now have nine offensive linemen on the team as of now. Pittsburgh also cut Max Borghi to get down to four running backs.

On the defensive side of the football, the Steelers made some tough cuts. Included with Rashed as outside linebacker was training camp standout Delontae Scott, James Vaughters, and Ron’Dell Carter. The Steelers, with the Malik Reed trade, are carrying four now with Derrek Tuszka as the other outside linebacker. With the defensive line, the Steelers released Carlos Davis, Khalil Davis, Henry Mondeaux, and Donovan Jeter. Their defensive line room is now down to seven players.

At inside linebacker, Johnson was the only inside linebacker released. They have five inside linebackers on the team as of now. For the secondary, the Steelers waived Linden Stephens, Chris Steele, and Elijah Riley. They still have six cornerbacks and five safeties on the roster, including Damontae Kazee, who suffered a serious injury on Sunday.

Pittsburgh will now have to get their roster down to 53 by the 4 p.m. deadline. There are plenty of tough decisions to be made, and the Steelers will have no shortage of those over the next few hours.
