Radio Host Thinks Steelers Have Grim Future: ‘This Team is a Mess’

Adam Schein of Mad Dog Sports Radio thinks things have gotten stale in Pittsburgh with Mike Tomlin as head coach, and things are just going to get worse.
“I look at this roster, and I think this team is a mess. I look at the feel around this team, I think it’s a disaster,” Schein said.
The bottom line is that the Steelers just don’t have a quarterback right now. You can’t compete with Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes or Joe Burrow with a 36-year-old Russell Wilson. It’s just not possible.
Not having a quarterback is just one of the problems on offense. The offensive line struggled immensely in 2024, the wide receiver corps is a bottom-tier unit, George Pickens could be on his way out, they’ll have to replace Najee Harris, who most likely walk in free agency. New offensive coordinator Arthur Smith also left a lot to be desired in 2024.
The defensive side of the ball also has a slew of question marks. Defensive coordinator Teryl Austin could be let go after a disastrous end to the season, but nothing has been announced yet. The secondary has to be revamped and the defensive line needs to be bolstered.
The Steelers had pretty poor drafts at the end of Kevin Colbert’s tenure, so that’s why there are so many needs. Omar Khan had solid drafts in his first two years, but there’s still a lot of work to be done.
The schedule for the Steelers in 2025 is also pretty daunting. Their opponents in 2025 boast a combined 152-137 record in 2024, giving the Steelers one of the 10 most difficult schedules in the NFL based on last year’s win percentage of 0.526.
Unless the Steelers figure something out at quarterback, Pittsburgh’s eight-year playoff win drought could be extended to nine years. And if things really go haywire, Mike Tomlin could have his first losing season as the team’s head coach.
Schein could be right. Grim times might be ahead for the Black and Gold.
