Asking Price Revealed for Raiders WR Davante Adams
The Las Vegas Raiders asking price has been revealed in a potential trade for star wide receiver Davante Adams.
The Las Vegas Raiders are shopping around wide receiver Davante Adams, and now the asking price has been revealed.
According to a report by Paul Gutierrez of ESPN, the Raiders are seeking a second-round draft pick and additional compensation in exchange for Adams.
The 31-year-old six-time Pro Bowler has requested a trade from the Raiders, and the feeling seems to be mutual. The club reportedly starting contacting other teams about a potential trade for Adams on Tuesday, one day after Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce reportedly liked an Instagram post saying that Adams had played his last snap for the team.
Pierce has been openly critical of the effort level of some of his players over the last few weeks. Adams said on Tuesday the two have not spoken since the alleged social media incident.
It seems clear at this point that the Raiders and Adams are careening toward a divorce, and the only question will be where he gets traded and how much the Raiders are able to get. The public nature of the breakup will likely soften the return for Vegas.
Gutierrez reported that the Raiders would consider trading Adams for a package that includes a second-round pick and additional compensation. Itโs not clear what else the Raiders are seeking, but that asking price seems high.
The Raiders will have just four weeks to trade Adams between now and the Nov. 4 NFL trade deadline, and while there are potential suitors like the New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers and Kansas City Chiefs, all will have their downsides.
The Raiders and the Steelers play in two weeks, which could make a trade unappealing to the Raiders at this time. Las Vegas has two games remaining against the Chiefs, and trails Kansas City by just two games for first place in the AFC West.
The Jets have Adamsโ former Green Bay Packers teammate in quarterback Aaron Rodgers, so there is obvious interest, but are another potential AFC Wild Card team that the Raiders would be helping.
A potential trade partner in the NFC is less obvious, but the Detroit Lions and Washington Commanders could both be fits.
Another part of the drag on Adamsโ demand is his contract. He is currently slated to make $36.25 million in each of the next two seasons, but none of that is guaranteed.ย
The 31-year-old is well regarded, but that salary appears to be out of line with his recent contributions. Adams was 15th in the NFL with 1,144 receiving yards last season but is set to be the highest-paid wide receiver in terms of annual cash paid out in each of the next two seasons.
None of that money is guaranteed, so an acquiring team could just treat Adams as a rental and cut him after the 2024 season. According to a report by Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, NFL sources believe that the Raiders will have to let an acquiring team renegotiate his contract before a trade.
That aspect of it, though, introduces Adamsโ preference into the equation. Like Brandon Aiyuk with the 49ers, he would not have to engaged in contract discussions with teams he does not want to play for. That would seemingly give the Jets an advantage in a potential Adams sweepstakes.
