The Cincinnati Bengals have benched longtime starting quarterback Andy Dalton after an 0-8 start to the 2019 season, the team announced on Tuesday.

Dalton was sacked five times and completed 32 of 52 passes for 329 yards and a touchdown in the Bengals’ 24-10 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in London on Sunday.

Through eight games, Dalton leads the NFL in completions (204) and attempts (338), but is 27th in completion percentage, 29th in passer rating, 29th in yards per attempt and tied for third interceptions.

Cincinnati has played the entire season thus far without star wide receiver A.J. Green, who is slated for a Week 10 return after a preseason ankle injury.

The 32-year-old Dalton has been the Bengals’ primary starter since he was a rookie in 2011. He’s missed just eight games since then.

Dalton will be replaced by rookie Ryan Finley, who the Bengals used fourth-round pick to draft out of NC State this spring.

The Steelers will face the Bengals in Cincinnati in Week 12 on Nov. 24.
