The Cleveland Browns will retain starting quarterback Baker Mayfield for the 2022 season, Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network report.
There have been plenty of rumblings that Mayfield and the Browns had a rift between the two parties. However, with the fifth-year option for Mayfield picked up, it makes for the Browns to retain him.
The season has not gone the way either party as liked, though. As Mayfield played through a torn labrum in his left shoulder that he will get surgery on, his numbers dipped and so did the team with him.
The Browns currently sit at 7-9 and in the cellar of the AFC North. It will be interesting to see how the Browns choose to supplement Mayfield and the team around him in 2022. However, without an improvement, it could be easy to see the two pairs splitting up after 2022.
