Former Steelers wide receiver and punt returner Diontae Spencer has been claimed on waivers by the Denver Broncos, according to a report by Ryan O’Halloran of the Denver Post.

Spencer, 27, was released by the Steelers on Saturday as the team cut its roster from 91 players down to 53 by the league-mandated 4 p.m. deadline.

He joined the Steelers in January on a reserve/future contract after spending the last four seasons with the Ottawa Redblacks and Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League.

The receiver and return specialist played in all four of the Steelers’ preseason games, making four catches for 39 yards and two carries for 48 yards.

The Steelers reportedly invited Spencer to be on their practice squad, but the waiver claim by Denver will supersede that offer.
