Report: Jimmy Garoppolo Name ‘Keep an Eye on’ for Steelers at QB

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport joined the network’s combine coverage in Indianapolis on Thursday to discuss the Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback situation, and said the franchise will leave no stone unturned in their process.

“All of the options are on the table for the Pittsburgh Steelers,” Rapoport said.

While Rapoport and Steelers decision makers are obviously in Indianapolis for the annual scouting combine, he does think they will have a shot at selecting one of the draft’s top passers at No. 20.

“They are going to take a hard look at the quarterback prospects,” Rapoport said. “20 would not be too early to take one of the top quarterbacks in this draft.”

He also believes they could opt to slot in a veteran, whether it be by trade or free agency this offseason.

“I would also expect them to look at some of the other guys who could be potentially traded,” he added. “Jimmy Garappolo would certainly be a name to keep an eye on there. You also have Mitchell Trubisky, who’s a free agent, who’s gaining some steam and some buzz in Indianapolis, as someone who could come in as a starter.”

With longtime general manager Kevin Colbert ultimately set to retire after April’s draft, Rapoport does not believe he will leave without addressing Pittsburgh’s quarterback situation.
