Report: Potential Steelers WR Target Unlikely to be Traded
Potential Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver trade target Darius Slayton is unlikely to be moved by the New York Giants.
The New York Giants are unlikely to trade veteran wide receiver Darius Slayton and would have to be โblown awayโ by the trade offer to do so, according to a report by Mike Garafalo of NFL Network.
Garafalo, who covered the Giants game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday, replied to a post on X from Giants reporter Art Stapleton, that suggested the team should try to sign Slayton and edge rusher Azeez Ojulari to contract extensions, instead of offering them for trade for middling draft picks.
Slayton was impressive in the Giants’ 26-18 loss to the Steelers, catching four passes for 108 yards to lead all receivers in the game.
The Steelers have been desperately seeking help at the wide receiver position since trading Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers back in March. The club notably tried and failed to land San Francisco 49ers star Brandon Aiyuk before the season. Aiyuk has since suffered a season-ending knee injury.
Omar Khan and company were also involved in talks to land Las Vegas Raiders star Davante Adams, but he was instead traded to the New York Jets last week. The Steelers also missed out on Tennessee Titans veteran DeAndre Hopkins, who was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs. The Steelers were considered the favorites to land Cooper Kupp, but his performance in a Los Angeles Rams upset victory on Thursday seems to have him off the market. Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Christian Kirk suffered a season-ending collarbone injury this weekend, taking himself off the market.
Slayton is one of the few proven starters remaining that could be traded, even if such a move seems unlikely.ย
The top remaining trade targets for the Steelers appear to be Jets deep threat Mike Williams and 34-year-old Carolina Panthers veteran Adam Thielen, who is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury.ย
Jakobi Meyers of the Raiders is another potential fits, though his availability in the trade market cannot be confirmed.
