Seahawks Open to Trading DK Metcalf — For Significant Price

The Seattle Seahawks are apparently open to the idea of trading star wide receiver DK Metcalf, and the Pittsburgh Steelers and the rest of the NFL might have just gotten a sneak peak at the asking price — and it’s steep.
The Seahawks have apparently been in talks with the Green Bay Packers about a trade that would send Metcalf to Wisconsin. The return being asked for, according to a report by Corbin Smith of Emerald City Spectrum, the Seahawks are targeting the No. 23 overall pick and either wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks or Romeo Doubs in return for Metcalf.
The Steelers have the No. 21 overall pick, but don’t have a young receiver that would be equivalent to Doubs or Wicks. The closest they could come value wise would be Roman Wilson, but both Doubt and Wicks are over 6-foot and can play outside. Seattle already has a slot receiver in Tyler Lockett and Jaxon Smith-Njigba can play inside, as well.
The Steelers could offer George Pickens in return, but that would be significantly more trade value going the other way, and would likely not provide the Steelers strong value when paired with the team’s first-round pick.

In addition to whatever the trading team would give up to get Metcalf, they will also have to meet his contract demands. He is set to earn $18 million in 2025, but that salary is not guaranteed. Trading Metcalf before June 1 will cause Seattle to incur a $21 million dead cap hit, but will still net them $10.9 million in savings in 2025.
The Seahawks’ second-round pick out of Ole Miss in the 2019 NFL Draft, Metcalf has spent his entire NFL career in Seattle. He most-productive season came in 2020, when he caught 83 passes for 1,303 yards and 10 touchdowns. He’s been a 1,000-yard receiver three times in six years and has had at least 900 yards in each of his NFL seasons. In 2024, Metcalf caught 66 passes for 992 yards and five touchdowns.
With Smith-Njigba, the team’s first-round pick in 2023, continuing to get an expanded role in the offense, the Seahawks have been looking to jettison one of their higher-priced veteran receivers, and it seems that Metcalf could bring them a significant haul of resources, if Seattle is able to find a team that will meet their asking price.
