Shedeur Sanders Teases Steelers Fans About Metcalf, Pickens Connection

Pittsburgh Steelers 2025 NFL Draft quarterback target Shedeur Sanders appeared on Maxx Crosby’s podcast The Rush on Monday afternoon, where he told stories about interacting with Steeler fans, and teased them with a comment about suiting up in black and gold.
At the very end of the podcast, Crosby asked Sanders to list his ‘Mount Rushmore’ of NFL duos. He thought for a long time, before naming Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams.
Then, he started playing with the listeners. Sanders surprised the pod by saying Derek Carr and Chris Olave of the New Orleans Saints. Carr is reportedly pondering a season-ending shoulder surgery, which would put the Saints in the market for a quarterback. They have the ninth pick of the 2025 NFL Draft.
“This is near future,” Sanders said. “Who knows?”
Finally, Sanders turned his attention to the Steelers.
“Whoever is gonna be the quarterback for DK Metcalf and George Pickens,” he said. “Whoever that is.”

Right after that, Sanders made a similar joke about the New York Giants, referencing wide receivers Malik Nabers and Darius Slayton. Earlier in the episode, Crosby had asked Sanders his thoughts on his visit with the Steelers earlier this month.
“The Steelers was real cool. The Pittsburgh visit was cool,” Sanders said, before getting into a story about his first interaction with Steelers faithful.
He recalled some Steelers fans coming up to him seeking his autograph at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. At the time, Justin Fields was still linked to a Pittsburgh return, and Sanders declined signing because he didn’t want to disrespect another Black quarterback. He said he’d get them the autographs when he came to their city, thinking he’d never hear from those fans again.
A few weeks later, when Sanders flew into Pittsburgh for his official visit at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex, those same fans found him and held him to his word. Sanders said he signed all their stuff.
“They were waiting in the airport, and I was like ‘Dang, they did that,’” Sanders said. “I know they’re going to this for good money, but I got to do it because I told them.”
