Myles Garrett Stuns, Re-Signs with Browns on Record-Setting Deal

The Cleveland Browns and star edge rusher Myles Garrett have put aside their difference, agreeing on a contract extension to make Garrett the highest paid non-quarterback in the history of the NFL, according to a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN.
The deal puts Garrett under contract in Cleveland through 2030 and includes a no-trade clause and $123.5 million in guaranteed money.
Garrett shocked by requesting a trade from Cleveland early last month, releasing a statement that took a shot at the only team that he has called home in his NFL career.
“While I’ve loved calling this city my home, my desire to win and compete on the biggest stages won’t allow me to be complacent,” Garrett said. “The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton, it has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl.”

The Browns, who finished 3-14 last season and hold the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, appear to be hard-pressed to contend anytime soon, with one of the league’s worst salary cap situations and the albatross that is the contract of quarterback Deshaun Watson hanging over their heads.
But apparently, money still talks, as Garrett has reset the edge rusher market just days after the Las Vegas Raiders signed Maxx Crosby to a deal worth $35.5 million per season.
In addition to facing Garrett twice a season, the Pittsburgh Steelers certainly were watching Garrett’s situation with significant interest, as they will be negotiating a new deal with their own star edge rusher, T.J. Watt, later this offseason.
Watt is entering the final season of a contact that pays him an average annual salary of $28 million, which is currently sixth among edge rushers. Now the question will be whether he will earn as much as Garrett.
