Should Steelers Pay T.J. Watt $40M? | Steelers Morning Rush

Steelers T.J. Watt

Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it’s the pending contract extension for star outside linebacker T.J. Watt.

Watt will almost certainly get a contract extension in the range of the four-year, $160 million contract the Cleveland Browns gave Myles Garrett earlier this offseason. While that seems like a lot, it’s actually a smaller percentage of the salary cap than the deal Nick Bosa signed with the San Francisco 49ers in 2023 and represents a bargain for his production.

What about a trade? Is it possible to get the kind of value a team would need to trade a player of the caliber of Watt? Alan breaks it down.
