Steelers All 90: OG Rashaad Coward

Published

on

All 90 is a Pittsburgh Steelers Now series profiling each of the 90 members of the Steelers 2021 offseason roster.

61 • Rashaad Coward, fourth-year offensive guard
6-foot-5, 326 pounds

Acquired: The Steelers signed Collins as a street free agent on March 30.

Last season: Played in all 16 games for the Bears, making five starts. Coward played in every Chicago offensive snap from Week 6 to Week 10 as the Bears dealt with the loss of starting left guard James Daniels.

Career: Coward signed with the Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2017 as a defensive lineman and played one game. In 2018, Bears head coach Matt Nagy moved Coward to offense, putting him at guard. Coward did not play in 2018, but started 10 games for Chicago in 2019 after an injury to Kyle Long.

College: Two-year starter at defensive tackle for Old Dominion. As a senior in 2016, he was fourth on the team with 50 tackles and had 7.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.

Camp outlook: With David DeCastro not participating in the team’s spring workouts prior to his release, Coward got plenty of opportunities to show the Steelers coaches what he can do. Trai Turner’s signing will push him to a backup role, but Coward appears to be in line to be one of the Steelers’ top second-team options in the interior of the line.

Future: Coward will be an unrestricted free agent after the 2021 season.
