Steelers All 91: ILB Mark Barron

Published

on

All 91 is a Pittsburgh Steelers Now series profiling each of the 91 members of the Steelers 2019 training camp roster.

26 • Mark Barron, eighth-year linebacker

Last year: Played and started in 12 games while dealing with an Achilles injury. Also played in all three playoff games as the Rams went to the Super Bowl. Signed with the Steelers as a free agent after he was released by Los Angeles.

Stats: Finished the regular season with 60 tackles, one sack, three tackles for a loss, a safety, a forced fumble and a pass defensed.

Accolades, Highlights:

Camp outlook: The Steelers seemingly have three linebackers for two spots between Barron, returning starter Vince Williams and first-round draft pick Devin Bush.

But there are plenty of snaps to go around between the base 3-4 defense and the Steelers’ nickel and dime sub packages.

Projected role: Bush and Barron have similar skillsets, but Barron is a much bigger hitter and probably more ready to handle the rigors of every-down work at the NFL level. Barron will probably start in the Steelers’ base defense, with Bush getting playing time on passing downs.
