The Pittsburgh Steelers made an addition to their roster on Monday night by claiming offensive lineman Tykeem Doss off waivers from the Baltimore Ravens.

Doss, a product of the University of Southern Mississippi, originally joined the Ravens as an undrafted free agent following the 2023 NFL Draft. He spent the entire 2023 season on Baltimoreโ€™s practice squad and was later signed to a reserve/future contract on January 29, 2024.

With rookie lineman Troy Fautanu sidelined for the next two weeks, Pittsburgh was due to add a body to its offensive line depth, and Doss presents an intriguing option. Doss is listed at 6-foot-5 and 375 pounds. At his Pro Day at Southern Miss, Doss produced 28 reps on the bench, recorded a 24 inch vertical and 8-foot-3 broad jump, and ran a 5.54 40-yard dash along with a 8.19 second 3-cone.

Doss saw limited action in the Ravensโ€™ preseason debut against the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday night, logging just one snap at left guard. However, during last yearโ€™s preseason, he played all his snaps at left tackle. How the Steelers plan to utilize Doss remains to be seen, but his ability to play multiple positions is something that Coach Tomlin is always attracted to. With two weeks to prove himself, Doss will be vying for a spot on Pittsburghโ€™s practice squad if he takes advantage of the opportunities he gets.

This marks the second time in the last year that Pittsburgh has snagged a player from their AFC North rivals. In January, the Steelers claimed outside linebacker Jeremiah Moon off waivers from the Ravens. With the addition of Doss, the Steelers now roster two players from Southern Miss, joining wide receiver Quez Watkinsโ€”who also hails from where I had the privilege of playing football last season.

Earlier on Monday, the Steelers waived defensive back Kalon Barnes with an injury designation. The Steelers now have one vacancy on their 90-man offseason roster.
