Steelers Cornerback Donte Jackson Leaves Game with Injury
LANDOVER, Md. — Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Donte Jackson sustained an hamstring injury early in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders and is questionable to return. Jackson was replaced by veteran backup James Pierre.
Jackson hasn’t missed any games this year but he’s been banged-up. He’s also been dealing with a nagging AC sprain since suffering the injury back in the team’s Week 3 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. He has been playing through it, but he missed extensive time during the Week 7 win over the New York Jets.
Jackson is the only Steelers player to suffer an in-game injury against the Commanders so far. The Steelers came into Sunday’s game a pretty healthy unit after the bye week. Outside linebacker Nick Herbig was the only Steelers player ruled out due to an injury.
Herbig had been a limited participant on both Wednesday and Thursday before missing Friday’s session. It’s unclear if that represented a planned schedule or a setback for Herbig, who said earlier this week he was pushing to return against Washington.
Herbig has been out since suffering the hamstring injury on Oct. 6 against the Dallas Cowboys. In previous weeks, Jeremiah Moon, Ade Ogundeji and Eku Leota have helped replace Herbig while both he and Alex Highsmith were banged up.
The Steelers got back five players for Sunday’s game in center Zach Frazier, linebacker Tyler Matakevich, running back Cordarrelle Patterson, quarterback Justin Fields and wide receiver Ben Skowronek.
