Steelers Training Camp Report Day

The Pittsburgh Steelers will report to training camp at St. Vincent College for the first time in three years on Tuesday, beginning a new chapter in their preparations for the 2022 season.

🏈 When the first rep at quarterback gets taken today, it will be Mitch Trubisky’s, with no changes to the Steelers quarterback depth chart coming out of the spring, Mike Tomlin said.

🏈 Mason Rudolph and Trubisky will be roommates, with Kenny Pickett and Chris Oladokun in an adjoining room, as the Steelers quarterbacks will have to deal with coexisting in close confines throughout their competition.

🏈 There were no elaborate entrances to Steelers training camp on Tuesday, and that’s just the way Cam Heyward likes it.

🏈 Minkah Fitzpatrick will start 2022 on the non-football injury list after he hurt his wrist in a bicycle accident. Tyson Alualu is on the physically unable to perform list with a swollen knee. Mike Tomlin didn’t expect long-term absences for either player. Steelers injury updates.

🏈 New Steelers defensive lineman Larry Ogunjobi said he never had any problems with Mason Rudolph after their roles in the 2019 Steelers-Browns brawl, calling it “water under the bridge” in his first Steelers interview session.

🏈 The Steelers signed veteran running back Jeremy McNichols, filling their 90-man roster and providing some competition for the top backup job behind Najee Harris.

AROUD THE NFL

🏈 Joe Burrow will miss the start of Cincinnati Bengals training camp with a case of appendicitis. Burrow is scheduled for an appendectomy, but should be ready to play for the Bengals’ season opener against the Steelers on Sept. 11.

🏈 San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is fully healthy after offseason shoulder surgery, and won’t be placed on the PUP list to start training camp, but he’s lost his starting job already, as the 49ers have made it clear they’re going with Trey Lance. The 49ers will continue to try to trade Garoppolo, a process that could get tricky with divisional foe Seattle as the last team seemingly in the market for a starting quarterback. The Cleveland Browns could also have interest, depending on the results of Deshaun Watson’s disciplinary hearing.

🏈 Baltimore Ravens second-round outside linebacker David Ojabo, who tore his Achilles at his pro day, is the lone rookie holdout as camps start. He did not report to Ravens camp. Fellow rookie, tight end Charlie Kolar, has a sports hernia and will miss most of training camp. Running back Gus Edwards, who is coming off knee surgery, is questionable to be ready for the start of the season and is on the PUP list. There is hope that fellow running back J.K. Dobbins will be ready for Week 1.

🏈 In Cleveland, the Browns placed cornerback Denzel Ward and tackle Jack Conklin on the PUP list to start training camp. Conklin is returning from knee surgery and Ward injured his ankle in minicamp.

STEELERS SCHEDULE

🏈 The team will have its first training camp practice of 2022 on Chuck Noll Field at St. Vincent College this afternoon at 1:55 p.m., and it is open to the public. The first five days of camp are non-contact, per the CBA. Players will be available to the media before and after, and Mike Tomlin will speak following practice. — Saunders, Carter, Farabaugh, Thompson
