Steelers Daily Links: Big Ben at Bahamas Bowl; OT Skoronski Declares for Draft

NFL Combine Steelers draft Northwestern OT Peter Skoronski

Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger supported his alma mater far on the road on Saturday and a new offensive tackle has declared for the draft that could be a first-round option for the Black and Gold.

? Ben Roethlisberger was at the Bahamas Bowl to watch his alma mater Miami of Ohio play UAB. The RedHawks fell to UAB, 24-20. Miami of Ohio head coach Chuck Martin said it meant a lot to the program to have Roethlisberger on the sideline.

? With the 50th anniversaries of the Immaculate Reception and passing of Roberto Clemente coming up, WTAE looked back at the impactful eight days that helped shape the Pittsburgh sports landscape.

? Former Steelers linebacker Vince Williams said Pine-Richland has the best coaching staff in high school football in Pennsylvania. “I know ball and it’s like three cats over here that could start their own program and dominate,” Williams tweeted. Williams was a linebackers coach at Pine-Richland this year. The Rams defeated Imhotep Charter, 28-14, in the PIAA Class-5A championship on Dec. 9.

? Northwestern offensive tackle Peter Skoronski has declared for the 2023 NFL Draft. He’s projected by most to be the top offensive lineman in this year’s class. Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports has the Steelers selecting Skoronski at 13th overall in his latest mock draft. “Skoronski is a pass-pro wizard, but he may not have top-10 caliber athletic gifts. The Steelers will gladly pick him here at No. 13 overall,” Trapasso wrote.

? Mike Tomlin’s son, Dino, got upset with 93.7 The Fan’s Colin Dunlap for saying that he will go undrafted. In four seasons, three at Maryland and one at Boston College, Dino has recorded 13 receptions for 200 yards and no touchdowns. Most of Dino’s production came this year at Boston College. Dino will be a fifth-year senior in 2023.

? Alex Highsmith, who was born in North Carolina and played at the University of Charlotte, is excited to face the Panthers at Bank of America Stadium on Sunday. “It’s crazy that I used to root against the Steelers, but now they’re my team,” Highsmith said. “It’s going to be cool to go back against the team that I once loved.”

? The Steelers have beaten the Carolina Panthers the past six times by an average of 23.8 points. During that six-game winning streak, the Panthers have been out-scored by 143 points.

? Pat Freiermuth reached 1,000 receiving yards in his 26th career game, which is tied for the fastest by a tight end in franchise history (Eric Green).

? Vince Williams said Cam Sutton is his favorite Steeler at the moment.

? Merril Hoge broke down how the ⁦Steelers’ offensive line and running game have improved over the course of the season.
