Steelers Daily Links: Offense at Back of Pack; Most Difficult Schedule

Published

on

The Pittsburgh Steelers offense is among the worst in the NFL, and is dragging down the entire team, but part of that could be due to an NFL-toughest first half schedule.

🏈The Steelers have the third-worst offense in the NFL, according to Pro Football Focus, and despite a nearly average defense, the Steelers are the third-worst team in the NFL, ahead of only the Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans. The Panthers and Indianapolis Colts are the only teams with worse offenses. They have both fired their head coaches.

🏈 Ken Carman of 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland thinks Kenny Pickett is at a major disadvantage by working with Matt Canada. “Not trolling, no joking, watching Justin Fields with Luke Getsy and Tua with Mike McDaniel, Steelers fans should be able to press kidnapping charges against Matt Canada for his work with Kenny Pickett,” Carman said on Twitter.

🏈 The Chicago Bears have scored more points in their last five games than the Pittsburgh Steelers and Denver Broncos have all season. The Bears have also rushed for at least 225 yards in each of their last 4 games. The last team to accomplish that was the 1976 Steelers, according to NFL Research.

🏈 According to Sheil Kapadia of The Ringer, the Steelers are the only offense in the league that has failed to produce a single above-average performance (EPA/drive) this season.

🏈 Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill has more receiving yards (1,104) than the entire wide receiver corps of eight teams. One of those teams are the Steelers, who have 1,027 yards from their receivers.

🏈 Former Steelers cornerback Ike Taylor thinks Kenny Pickett is the right guy for the organization. “I’ve seen with my own eyes and I’m sure you saw as well, when (Pickett) steps on the field, the offensive vibe is just totally different,” Taylor said on the Minus Three Podcast with Dave Dameshek. “And this is no disrespect to Mitchell Trubisky, it’s just Kenny is the answer.”

🏈 The Steelers have had the most difficult schedule in the league through nine weeks, according to PFF, and have one of the easiest remaining schedules.

🏈 Jeff Saturday, who was named as the Indianapolis Colts interim head coach on Monday, is the first person to become an NFL head coach with no collegiate or professional coaching experience since Norm Van Brocklin in 1961.

🏈 On Oct. 30, Jeff Saturday tweeted “Raiders look horrible.” Saturday’s first game as the Colts interim head coach is against the Raiders on Sunday. Life moves fast.

🏈 Pro Football Focus has James Daniels with a 76.6 pass blocking grade this season, which is the seventh-best among guards.

🏈 James Franklin gave a shoutout to Jack Ham, who has been a radio analyst for Penn State football since 2000. “Born in Pa., played in Pa. (PSU & Steelers), returned to PSU. We’re honored to have Jack Ham part of our Penn State family, a true Pennsylvania icon,” Franklin said on Twitter.

🏈 James Wexell of Steel City Insider recently released his fifth book on the Steelers. The title of his new book is “ON THE CLOCK: Pittsburgh Steelers: Behind the Scenes at the NFL Draft.” Wexell takes readers behind the scenes with top decision-makers as they evaluate, deliberate, and ultimately make the picks they hope will tip the fate of their franchise toward success. The book can be purchased on Amazon.
