Steelers Daily: Pickett Hangs Banner, 2 to IR, Old Friends Return

Kenny Pickett hung a banner celebrating Pitt’s 2021 ACC title during the Panthers’ big win, two Pittsburgh Steelers will miss at least four weeks on the injured reserve and the team brought back two players from the 2021 squad.

🏈 Steelers Jaylen Warren took a long, hard road to the NFL, but he’s arrived nonetheless, as the undrafted rookie and one-time junior college player made the Steelers’ 53-man roster.

🏈 Steelers Kenny Pickett unveiled the 2021 ACC Championship banner at Acrisure Stadium prior to the Pitt vs. West Virginia game on Thursday night.

🏈 Steelers Pickett’s teammates Pat Freiermuth, Zach Gentry and Mason Cole were on the Pitt sideline with him before the game. Mitch Trubisky was also in attendance.

🏈 Steelers Mike Tomlin and Brian Flores were at the Backyard Brawl, as well. The Steelers were among 21 other teams who had scouts at the game.

🏈 Steelers SN Power Rankings: With the Backyard Brawl being played at Acrisure Stadium, Alan Saunders, Cale Berger and Nick Farabaugh broke down the top Pitt and WVU alumni to play for the Steelers.

🏈 Steelers The Steelers put safety Damontae Kazee and wide receiver Calvin Austin III on the injured reserve list. Both players will miss at least four weeks. The team re-signed inside linebacker Marcus Allen and tackle Trent Scott.

🏈 Steelers The Steelers claimed outside linebacker Jamir Jones off waivers from the Jacksonville Jaguars. Jones spent the 2021 offseason with the team and played three games before being lost to the Los Angeles Rams on waivers last fall. Derrek Tuszka was released.

🏈 Steelers The New York Giants signed defensive end Henry Mondeaux to their practice squad. Mondeaux was released by the Steelers on Tuesday.

🏈 Steelers The Steelers signed Mark Gilbert to their practice squad. Gilbert, who spent 2021 training camp with the Steelers, was cut by the Detroit Lions.

🏈 Steelers The Steelers signed former Cincinnati Bengals tight end Justin Rigg to their practice squad.

🏈 Steelers Penn State cornerback Joey Porter Jr. had a standout performance in the Nittany Lions’ 35-31 win over Purdue on Thursday night. Porter led Penn State with eight tackles, three pass breakups and a fumble recovery. Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer tweeted, “Joey Porter Jr. will be playing on Sundays like his dad.” Porter is projected to be a first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

🏈 Steelers Steelers legend Terry Bradshaw celebrates his 74th birthday on Friday.

🏈 Steelers The Cleveland Browns worked out former Steelers tight end Jesse James, according to Zac Jackson of The Athletic.

🏈 Steelers Hines Ward wants to develop his own culture as the head coach of the San Antonio XFL team. “I want to establish a GREAT CULTURE! In PITTSBURGH, the relationship the city has with the team is like no other, but I want to CREATE our own SAN ANTONIO brand of football!” Ward said on Twitter during a Q&A session.
