PITTSBURGH — Steelers defensive end Stephon Tuitt continues to progress in his rehab from a knee injury, but his will not return to practice this week, head coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday.

Tuitt had been seen running and doing other training activities in the open portions of Steelers practice in the weeks leading up to the team’s off weekend, leading to speculation that he could return after the break, but Tomlin said he’s not quite where he needs to be in order for that to happen.

“His return is not imminent this week,” Tomlin said. “I don’t anticipate it. Although it’s going well, he’s progressing, but not close enough for participation.”

Tuitt got a late start on his 2021 season, missing part of the team’s offseason program after his brother was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Georgia. When he returned, Tuitt was working toward getting into game shape when he suffered a knee injury late in training camp and has not been back on the practice field since.
