AT STAKE

The Pittsburgh Steelers have an opportunity to significantly right their topsy-turvy start of the 2022 season. The injuries that beset the team, especially the defense, over the past few weeks are largely gone, and now the shoe is on the other foot, with double-digit Dolphins players on the injured list. The Steelers already have one win in their brutal four-game stretch of contenders before their bye week. A second would put them right back into the conversation for a playoff spot.

This game will also be of national import, consider the attention given to Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa during his concussion several weeks ago. Tagovailoa will return to the field against the Steelers, who are also bringing quarterback Kenny Pickett back from a concussion, one suffered just seven days ago in Pittsburgh’s Week 6 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

TRANSACTIONS

The Steelers signed former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Josh Malone to the practice squad. Malone served as Tyreek Hill on the Pittsburgh scout team this week. The Steelers also re-signed running back Jason Huntley and released strong safety Scott Nelson from the practice squad.

INJURY REPORT

WR/KR Steven Sims (hamstring) is out. CB Ahkello Witherspoon (hamstring) is doubtful. OLB T.J. Watt (pec, knee), S Damontae Kazee (arm) and WR/KR Calvin Austin III (foot) remain on the injured reserve list.

Miami CB Keion Crossen (knee) is doubtful. Dolphins T Terron Armstead (toe), T Greg Little (Achilles), CB Xavien Howard (groin), CB Kader Kohl (oblique), DE Emmanuel Ogbah (back), TE Durham Smythe (hamstring), QB Skylar Thompson (thumb), WR Jaylen Waddle (shoulder) and DT Christian Wilkins (hand) are all questionable.

FROM THE OTHER SIDE

The Dolphins are honoring the 50th anniversary of their undefeated 1972 Super Bowl championship team, are wearing throwback uniforms and have a historic end zone pattern on the turf at Hard Rock Stadium.
