Steelers Escape Injuries in Win vs. Giants, Head Into Bye Week Healthy
PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Steelers suffered no noteworthy injuries in Monday night’s 26-18 win over the New York Giants at Acrisure Stadium.
“We had some bumps and bruises associated with play, but I think everyone who went down were able to return to the game,” Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said after the game.
Starting left tackle Dan Moore Jr. was out briefly in the fourth quarter after getting banged up on a play. Calvin Anderson gave up a third-and-goal sack when filling in for Moore. The Steelers went 0-for-4 in the red zone on the night.
Justin Fields dressed only as an emergency backup for the Steelers on Monday night.
Fields was a late addition to the Steelersโ injury report on Sunday, when he was listed as questionable to play with a hamstring injury. Itโs unclear how Fieldsโ injury happened. He took warmupsย just before the official announcement.
Running back Cordarrelle Patterson missed his fourth consecutive game. Patterson has been out of action since suffering an ankle injury during the Steelersโ Week 4 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. He had been a limited participant in practice on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and was originally listed as doubtful to play before being downgraded to out on Saturday.
Following this week’s bye, Patterson should be back for the Steelers’ Week 10 game against the Washington Commanders
Rookie center Zach Frazier (ankle) and second-year outside linebacker Nick Herbig (hamstring) are also expected to return after the bye week.
Frazier suffered a left ankle injury in the Steelers’ Week 6 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Frazier was blocking on a run play and got rolled up on. He did not suffer any structural damage in his injured left ankle.ย Ryan McCollum has filled in for Frazier at center in the last two games.
Herbig suffered what appeared to be a significant hamstring injury during the Steelersโ Week 6 home loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
The Steelersโ fourth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Wisconsin, Herbig has excelled as a pass rusher in his brief time in a Pittsburgh uniform so far. He has 5.5 sacks and eight tackles for loss in his first 22 professional games.
In his first six games this season, Herbig recorded 2.5 sacks, eight tackles, three tackles for loss, three quarterback hits, forced one fumble and recovered another.
Steelers rookie wide receiver Roman Wilson (hamstring) was placed on injured reserve on Monday afternoon.
