The Steelers have concluded the first round of interviews for their general manager position, Kevin Colbert said to the media on Sunday.

Pittsburgh interviewed 16 overall candidates for the position since the beginning of February, making it one of the most thorough and extensive general manager searches in NFL history. With the list of candidates at such a high number, it was clear that Steelers team president Art Rooney II wanted no stone left unturned

“Art (Rooney II) has a desire to be thorough,” Mike Tomlin said via Mark Kaboly of the Athletic.

With such an extensive list both internally and externally, the Steelers have likely interviewed most if not all of the candidates they are interested in at this point. The list of 16 candidates is as follows:

Steelers vice president Omar Khan
Steelers scouting coordinator Brandon Hunt
Titans vice president Ryan Cowden
Colts vice president Ed Dodds
Chargers director of player personnel JoJo Wooden
ESPN analyst Louis Riddick
Colts director of college scouting Morocco Brown
Packers co-director of player personnel John Wojciechowski
Buccaneers vice president John Spytek
Eagles Vice President Andy Weidl
Ravens director of player personnel Joe Hortiz
49ers director of personnel Ran Carthon
Panthers assistant general manager Dan Morgan
Former Giants general manager Jerry Reese
Former Bills general manager Doug Whaley
Forma Vikings general manager Rick Spielman

All of those candidates have extensive experience within the NFL front office. In addition to the search being extensive, Colbert noted that the process will pick up after the 2022 NFL Draft as well. The Steelers will host their second round of interviews following the draft’s conclusion.

Following the draft, Colbert will step down, thus paving the way for his successor.
