Steelers Have Strong Representation at East-West Shrine Bowl
The Pittsburgh Steelers are out in full force at the East-West Shrine Bowl. According to Josh Carney of Steelers Depot, assistant general manager Andy Weidl, senior scouting assistant Kelvin Fisher, college scout Mark Bruener, college scout Chidi Iwuoma, college scout Jim Ward, pro scout Dennis MacInnis, BLESTO scout Matt McCreight and director of college scouting Dan Colbert are in Arlington, Texas for the weeklong event.
In recent years, this is an event that has gained popularity in part because of the influx of NFL Draft talent that they’ve been able to lure to the setting.
Last year, the Steelers selected two prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft who participated at the Shrine Bowl, fourth-round guard Mason McCormick and sixth-round defensive lineman Logan Lee.
The college all-star game environment isn’t made to take place of the tape that these players have put on display for several years, rather give them one final opportunity to compete against top competition in front of a plethora of scouts and decision makers.
Derrick Bell of Steelers Now broke down five Steelers to watch at the Shrine Bowl. He has Michigan defensive tackle Kenneth Grant and Kansas cornerback Cobee Bryant as his top two prospects to watch.
DT and CB are certainly pressing needs for the Steelers in this year’s draft, and Grant and Bryant could fit the bill for what the organization is looking for. Cam Heyward is still playing at an elite level, but he’ll be 36 in 2025. And cornerbacks Donte Jackson and Cam Sutton struggled immensely down the stretch.
