Steelers Heavy Hitters Are at the Senior Bowl
MOBILE, Ala. — As expected, the Pittsburgh Steelers have a strong representation at the Senior Bowl. Alan Saunders of Steelers Now reports that head coach Mike Tomlin, offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, defensive coordinator Teryl Austin, general manager Omar Khan, director of college scouting Dan Colbert, director of pro scouting Sheldon White, senior personnel assistant Quentin Harris and director of player scouting Mark Sadowski are all in Mobile.
Tomlin was watching offensive line and defensive line one-on-one drills during a portion of the practice, while Khan was checking in on some of the National Team defensive tackles.
Senior Bowl Director Jim Nagy highlighted the defensive line during his press conference with the media on Monday.
“I love the group we brought,” Nagy said when highlighting the defensive line.
With Cam Heyward getting older despite an All-Pro-worthy season, the Steelers likely will want to acquire his successor to pair with rising lineman Keeanu Benton.
The Steelers will be in Mobile for a week of scouting some of the 2025 NFL Draft pool’s top players. Nagy also highlighted in his press conference the depth at running back positions — another spott he Steelers certainly will be evaluating.
“It’s a good thing because the free agent class isn’t great,” Nagy started in discussing the draft’s running back roster. “It’s deep. It’s really deep in the senior class … having an Ollie Gordon … Damian Martinez … We went to our limits, we [have] 12 running backs”
Nagy believes teams like the Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions and Baltimore Ravens have laid out the blueprint that a run-first offense can still succeed.
“I think everyone in the league is trying to get to that point where Detroit is where you have a true complementary backfield,” Nagy said, highlighting the Lions’ dynamic duo backfield. “There’s guys out there … the depth of the class is going to go into the 5th, 6th round.”
