The Pittsburgh Steelers brought in veteran defensive back and former second-round draft pick Marquise Blair for a tryout on Tuesday, according to a report by Aaron Wilson of KPRC-TV in Houston.

Blair, 27, was a teammate of Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson with the Seattle Seahawks, who drafted him in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Blair played safety and slot cornerback for the Seahawks from 2019-21, and started three games in his rookie season, including one against the Steelers.

Since then, he’s bounced around, played in three games for the Carolina Panthers in 2022 and also adding stops with the Philadelphia Eagles, a second stint with the Seahawks, and the New York Jets.

This season, Blair started with the Eagles, where he finished the 2023 season, but he was released with a non-football injury designation in April. He signed with the Seahawks in July, and was released in the final roster cuts on Aug. 27. He spent a month on the Seahawks practice squad before being released, and then spent another month on the Jets practice squad before they cut ties with him on Nov. 5.

A 6-foot-1, 196-pound defensive back, Blair spent two seasons at Utah from 2017-18 and previously played at Dodge City Community College in Kansas. He is an alum of Wooster High School in Ohio.

In pre-draft testing, Blair ran a 4.48-second 40-yard dash and posted a 10-foot-5 broad jump on the way to an 8.29 Relative Athletic Score out of 10.

The Steelers have not replaced veteran strong safety Terrell Edmunds since they released him and do not have a viable backup to starting strong safety DeShon Elliott on the 53-man roster or the practice squad at this time.
