Steelers ILB Joe Schobert Changes to Uniform No. 93

PITTSBURGH — Steelers linebacker Joe Schobert is moving up in the world.

Assigned No. 45 after coming over the from the Jacksonville Jaguars in a mid-training camp trade, Schobert made the change to No. 93 on the eve of the regular season. That number had been assigned to defensive tackle Demarcus Christmas, who has been on the injured reserve.

Schobert wore 47 with the Jaguars and 53 with the Cleveland Browns earlier in his career. He wore 58 with Wisconsin, which has been unofficially retired by the Steelers for linebacker Jack Lambert.

The new addition wasn’t the only Steelers player to make a change. Outside linebacker Jamir Jones switched from No. 44 to No. 40 to avoid a duplicate with Derek Watt. Inside linebacker Buddy Johnson moved from 51 to to take Schobert’s old 45, avoiding a duplicate with Trai Turner. New Steelers cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon with wear No. 25.

On the practice squad, new additions Karl Joseph (30), Derrek Tuszka (48), Christian Miller (55), Daniel Archibong (61) and Steven Sims (82) were assigned numbers, while Donovan Stiner switched from 26 to 37 to avoid a duplicate with Anthony McFarland.
