Steelers Injury Updates: CB DeMarkus Acy Tore His ACL

Steelers cornerback DeMarkus Acy has torn his ACL, he announced on Twitter on Tuesday.

Acy, 23, signed with the Steelers as a street free agent on May 3, 2021. He had spent training camp in 2020 with the San Francisco 49ers after signing as an undrafted free agent out of Missouri.

The injury almost always requires players to miss the entire season. It is likely that Acy will be placed on injured reserve, though the Steelers have not announced a transaction. The team does not have a full practice session on Wednesday.

“It hurts that this happened just days before my pro debut but there’s no quit in me,” Acy wrote on Twitter. “Prayer has always got me through anything and I continue to live through faith and let life teach me valuable lessons.”

Acy had been considered a long shot to make the 53-man roster, but was in a legitimate battle with practice squad holdover Stephen Denmark and rookie free agents Shakur Brown and David Gilbert to start the season on the practice squad as the team’s No. 7 cornerback option.

Joe Haden and Cam Sutton are expected to start, with Antoine Brooks Jr. and Arthur Maulet battling it out in the slot and James Pierre and Justin Layne providing depth.
