Steelers Injury Updates: CBs Jackson, Witherspoon Both Miss Practice

Five Pittsburgh Steelers did not participate in Wednesday’s practice session at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on Wednesday due to injury.

Kicker Chris Boswell, cornerback William Jackson III, cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon, inside linebacker Myles Jack and defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi did not participate in Wednesday’s practice with an injury.

Boswell appears to be on track to miss his second straight game with a right groin injury. The Steelers signed kicker Matthew Wright from the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad on Wednesday. Wright must spend three weeks with the Steelers, making it likely that Boswell will miss significant time.

Jackson practiced during the Steelers’ bye week after coming over on a deadline-day trade from the Washington Commanders, but has now missed consecutive practices with a back injury. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said that the injury was a non-factor in the Steelers choosing to acquire Jackson, who they got for a conditional 2025 sixth-round draft pick.

It’s not clear how the Steelers intend to use Jackson in the defense at this point. Witherspoon, who returned from a hamstring injury in Week 8 only to struggle and be benched, was held out of practice on Wednesday and against listed with a hamstring issue. It’s unclear if he suffered a new injury or aggravated the previous one.

If Jackson and Witherspoon both cannot play, James Pierre would be next in line at outside cornerback, with Cam Sutton also available to play that spot. Levi Wallace is expected to start after missing the Steelers’ Week 8 game against the Philadelphia Eagles with a shoulder injury.

Jack is dealing with a knee injury and his status appears to be in up in the air for the Steelers Week 10 game against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. He was also held out over the bye week. Robert Spillane will replace Jack in the starting lineup if he is unable to dress.

Ogunjobi missed the Eagles game with a knee injury and was replaced by Chris Wormley. Isaiahh Loudermilk, Montravius Adams Sr. and Tyson Alualu are also in the mix to see more playing time if Ogunjobi can’t dress this week.

Long snapper Christian Kuntz, who Tomlin said on Tuesday has a rib injury, was a full participant in practice and said on Wednesday that he is good to go for Sunday’s game.
