PITTSBURGH — Seven Pittsburgh Steelers players were limited in practice and two more did not practice on Wednesday in the team’s first tune-up session at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex for the club’s Week 7 trip to Miami to face the Dolphins on Sunday Night Football.

Wide receiver and kick returner Steven Sims (hamstring) and defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi (knee) were held out of Wednesday’s practice.

Cornerback Cam Sutton (hamstring), cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon (hamstring), free safety Minkah Fitzpatrick (knee), inside linebacker Myles Jack (ankle), center Mason Cole (foot/ankle), guard James Daniels (ankle) and defensive lineman Chris Wormley (ankle) were all limited.

Three Steelers returning from the NFL concussion protocol were full participating in Wednesday’s practice: quarterback Kenny Pickett, cornerback Levi Wallace and tight end Pat Freiermuth.

The Steelers’ secondary, which has been significantly banged up in recent weeks, appears to be rounding into health. Fitzpatrick said earlier on Wednesday that he expects to play in his return to Miami on Sunday. He and Wallace would give the team at least three starting members of the secondary.

The status of Sutton and Witherspoon is less clear. James Pierre, who suffered a stinger against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, is not listed on the injury report and is apparently fine. Pierre and Josh Jackson would likely be in line to once again fill in for those two if they’re unable to play.

Jack, Cole, Daniels and Wormley were all able to finish the game against the Bucs and should probably be expected to be full participants in practice at some point this week.

Gunner Olszewski would resume the team’s slot receiver and kick returner role if Sims can’t play. Tyson Alualu, Montravius Adams and Wormley would be in line to fill in for Ogunjobi if he can’t play.
