Steelers Injury Updates: Steelers Lose Two vs. Falcons
Pittsburgh Steelers Injury Updates: P Cameron Johnson and CB Darius Rush did not return after leaving Sunday’s game with injuries.
ATLANTA — Two Pittsburgh Steelers left Sunday’s season-opening win over the Atlanta Falcons with injuries and did not return, while two more were able to get back into action after suffering in-game ailments.
Punter Cameron Johnston left on a cart after a collision with Falcons wide receiver KhaDarel Hodge in the fourth quarter. He is expected to need surgery and miss significant playing time, a team source told Steelers Now.
The other injury happened on the same play, as cornerback Darius Rush was taken off the field to be evaluated for a concussion. Head coach Mike Tomlin said that evaluation was still ongoing as the game ended.
Two other defensive backs, Joey Porter Jr. and Donte Jackson, both left the game, but returned. Porter was also checked for concussion symptoms in the blue tent on the Pittsburgh sideline by the independent NFL neurologist.
Kicker Chris Boswell replaced Johnston as the punter, while wide receiver Scotty Miller took on his holding duties. Miller and Ben Skowronek teamed up to cover the final Steelers punt of the game with Rush out.
Two players made their return from injury, as cornerback Cory Trice Jr. (groin) and running back Jaylen Warren (ankle) both played. Trice replaced Porter while he was out. Warren worked a limited snap count in behind starting running back Najee Harris.
Tackle Troy Fautanu (knee) dressed but did not play.
