🏈 7 p.m: Since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970, the Steelers have been one of the most winningest franchises in the league. They are tied with the Patriots for the most Super Bowl titles (6) and playoff wins (36) during the Super Bowl era. The Steelers’ 495 wins since 1970 are also the most in the league. So, minus a few seasons in the 1980s, the Steelers have been pretty consistent when it comes to being at least competitive in the last five decades.

Mike Tomlin hasn’t had a losing season during his 15 seasons as head coach, but the Steelers are going through a five-year drought without a playoff win, which hasn’t happened for the franchise since pre-1972. The NFL on CBS Twitter account recently outlined just how odd it is to see the Steelers on a list with 10 other teams who haven’t had a playoff win in the last five seasons.

The Steelers’ last playoff win was against the Chiefs in the AFC divisional game on Jan. 15, 2017. Chris Boswell converted six field goals to lead the Steelers to an 18-16 victory. Since then, the Steelers have lost to the Patriots, Jaguars, Browns and Chiefs in the playoffs. The Steelers have been outscored 171-117 in their last four playoff games and have allowed at least 36 points in each game.

🏈 Noon: For The Win of the USA Today Sports Network recently ranked every NFL team’s helmet logo, and the Steelers’ logo was deemed the league’s best. The Steelers’ helmet logo design is unique, as it’s the only helmet in the league that has the logo on one side. The three hypocycloids are also interesting as it pays homage to the steel industry, which perfectly resembles the city of Pittsburgh.

Along with being a global brand, the Steelers are also an organization that values tradition. That aspect was favorable in For The Win giving the Steelers the No. 1 helmet logo.

“They took the logo of the industry that built their city and flipped the association from steel mills to Terry Bradshaw. The day they change it is the day Pittsburgh burns to the ground,” For The Win explained.

Following the Steelers in the rankings were the Chargers, Saints, Falcons, Cowboys and Raiders. The Titans had the worst-ranked helmet.

🏈 10 a.m: Happy 24th birthday to Steelers wide receiver Chase Claypool, born on July 7, 1998 in Abbotsford, British Columbia.

Also born on July 7 were former Steelers offensive lineman Matt Feiler (30), outside linebacker Cassius Marsh (30) and wide receiver Demarcus Ayers (28).
