Hi, friends. I’m Hunter Homistek, and we’re going to have a lotta fun talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers.

While I’m new to the Steelers Now family, I’m no stranger to reporting (or reporting on the men in black and gold). I studied journalism at West Virginia University (yeah, yeah, save your 13-9 and Pitt six comments until the ride comes to a complete stop) before launching a full-time career as an MMA writer and reporter for Bleacher Report, MMA Fighting, and FloCombat.

There, I covered major UFC events, interviewed fighters, and even went on a few road trips to visit gyms (and homes) of some of MMA’s biggest stars.

That all set me up to come home to Pittsburgh.

In December of 2018, I accepted a full-time role covering the Steelers, the Pirates, and, eventually, Pitt basketball. For almost two years, I reported on our local squads, producing some of my favorite work to date in the process.

Then COVID happened.

With no access to locker rooms and no personal interactions in sight, the entire dynamic of reporting changed –– and I hated it.

I bounced.

For the past two years, I’ve been working as a digital marketing consultant for local businesses (including a site sponsor, Moon Golf Club!). In addition, I took over as General Manager for 247 Fighting Championships –– Pittsburgh’s premier MMA promotion –– last August.

Now, I’m adding some Steelers reporting back to the mix.

I’m not going to lie: Getting me here was a tough sell for the Steelers Now family. I love reporting and I love the Steelers –– but I also love what I created over the past two years. The offer to get me here had to be perfect.

It was. And I’m not talking about money. It’s about the vision of the Steelers Now brass and what they see for the future of this company.

The team they’ve assembled is fantastic –– and it’s only getting better. They’re primed to do incredible things in the Pittsburgh sports landscape –– and I’m honored to be a part of it.

So here’s a list of promises:

  1. My writing will not read like a robot programmed to spit out 400 words.
  2. You will read stories and angles here on Steelers Now you cannot find anywhere else.
  3. You will learn more about the players –– as people –– you watch on Sundays (and Mondays and Thursdays).
  4. We can always disagree –– and we can discuss those disagreements in the comments!
  5. My Steelers coverage will be fun for you.

Buckle up, friends. This Steelers season is going to be insane –– and I can’t wait to share it from all angles with you.
