The Pittsburgh Steelers are offering a pilot program for girls flag football this Spring. The program is in celebration of National Girls & Women in Sports Day and the 50th Anniversary of Title IX and also to encourage high school sports to sanction girls football.

The Steelers will host a Girls Flag Football Jamboree, on Sunday, Feb. 27, 1 p.m. at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on the SouthSide. Schools that participate will be given uniforms, equipment and funding to assist with both transportation and coaching.

“We are excited to provide this opportunity for high schools in Western Pennsylvania,” Steelers President Art Rooney II said in a statement. “Flag Football is an exciting game, and already very popular in community programs, so it is great to provide high school girls with an opportunity to keep playing and represent their high school.”
