Steelers OLB Alex Highsmith Takes Step Forward in Injury Rehab
Pittsburgh Steelers Injury Update: Alex Highsmith took a step forward in his return from a left ankle injury.
PITTSBURGH — Outside linebacker Alex Highsmith continues to progress in his rehab from his left ankle injury, but the Pittsburgh Steelers defensive star has still yet to get a full practice in since his injury.
Highsmith was listed as limited in practice on Thursday, after being listed as having not practiced on Wednesday. He was seen participating in get-off and footwork drills before practice on Thursday, but still does not yet look 100%.
Head coach Mike Tomlin left the door open to a Highsmith return on Tuesday, but the team’s starting right outside linebacker still being limited on Thursday is not necessarily a good sign for his return. The Steelers were practicing indoors at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex because of the rain on Thursday, so that could have had something to do with Highsmith only being limited.
Highsmith told Steelers Now earlier this week that he does not believe the fact that Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals will be played on turf will be a limiting factor in his return.
Highsmith has been out since suffering the low left ankle sprain in the waning moments of the team’s Week 10 win over the Washington Commanders.

Steelers cornerback Cory Trice (hamstring) and defensive tackle Montravius Adams (knee) were both limited on Thursday after being full participants on Wednesday, and that was likely due to the nature of the indoor practice. Adams said he felt good to go after the session.
