Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker T.J. Watt has been named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week after a career-best performance against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 13.

Watt had a career-high 3.5 sacks against Baltimore, despite not practicing for the entire week leading up to the game while on the COVID-19 Reserve List. He also had six tackles and a forced fumble.

“He did his deal and called on his cumulative body of work in an effort to execute,” head coach Mike Tomlin said.

Watt is the first player this season to have multiple three-or-more-sack games. His final sack moved him into a tie with James Harrison for the most sacks in a season in Steelers history and he leads all NFL players in sacks this season.

Watt was also the AFC Defensive Player of the Week after Week 6 of this season and won the award once in 2020 and twice in 2018. He joins Troy Polamalu as the only Steelers players to win the award five or more times. Polamalu was honored seven times in his Hall of Fame career.
