Steelers Open as Touchdown Favorite Over Broncos

Published

on

The Pittsburgh Steelers have opened as touchdown favorites for their Week 2 matchup with the Denver Broncos.

Pittsburgh is -6, with the over/under set at 43, courtesy of BetOnline.ag.

Both teams kicked off their seasons on Monday night as part of ESPN’s annual doubleheader.

The Steeler topped the New York Giants 26-16 in quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s return. The 17-year veteran went 21 of 32 for 229 yards and three touchdowns in his debut. Wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster caught two of those touchdowns, while the smothering Steelers defense allowed just six rushing yards to star running back Saquan Barkley and forced two interceptions.

Still, Monday night proved costly for the Steelers, as right tackle Zach Banner, guard Stefen Wisniewski and running back James Conner all suffered injuries.

Denver fell at home 16-14 to the Tennessee Titans in the nightcap. While second-year starter Drew Lock looked good with a touchdown and completions to ten different receivers, the Broncos failed to muster enough offense to overcome a resilient Titans team. Even with four misses by veteran kicker Stephen Gostkowski, Tennessee still managed to grind out the win at Mile High.

The Steelers and Broncos will kickoff at 1:00 PM from Heinz Field. The game will be broadcast locally on KDKA-TV.

The Steelers are 2-1 against the spread, covering a 3.5-point line against the Texans and also covering against the Giants, but failing to cover six points in a five-point win over Denver.

Tennessee is 0-3 against the spread. They beat Minnesota, 31-30, while favored by two, beat the Jaguars by three while favored by seven and the Broncos by two while favored by 3.5.

The point total of Sunday’s game, which will kick off at 1 p.m. at Nissan Stadium, is 47.5.

The Steelers have won two straight games against the Titans and five of the last seven, with recent wins at Heinz Field in 2017 (40-17) and in Tennessee in 2014 (27-24). The Titans’ last win in the series was a 16-9 victory at Heinz Field in 2013.

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ Super Bowl odds have shortened after their 2-0 start to the season.

Opening the 2020 season at 22/1, the Steelers are now 20/1 to win Super Bowl LV, courtesy of BetOnline.ag.

The Steelers were not the only team to see their prospects rise, with the Baltimore Ravens, Seattle Seahawks, Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills and Green Bay Packers also seeing their odds shorten.

After key injuries and inconsistency to start the year, the New Orleans Saints and San Francisco 49ers both have longer odds than where they began.

The Kansas City Chiefs — whose odds remained the same — and the Ravens are currently the favorites to win Super Bowl LV at 5/1.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have opened as five-point favorites against the Houston Texans this Sunday at Heinz Field, according to odds released Sunday by BetOnline.ag.

The Steelers sit at 2-0 on the season after victories at the New York Giants and at home over the Denver Broncos, while the Texans are 0-2, dropping games to the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens.

The Steelers are 1-1 against the spread, covering a six-point line against the Giants, but failing to hit that same figure in Sunday’s five-point victory over the Broncos.

The Texans have twice been losers in the eyes of bettors as well as on the scoreboard. They could not cover a 9.5-point spread against the Chiefs or a 7.5-point line against the Ravens.

The point total of Sunday’s game, which will kick off at 1 p.m. at Heinz Field, is 44.5.

The Steelers and Texans have met six times since the Houston squad joined the league in 2002, and the upstarts have had a significant disadvantage, losing four of the six games and each of the last two contests in 2017 and 2014. The last Houston win over Pittsburgh came in 2011.

Pittsburgh has not started its season with three straight wins since beating Atlanta, Tennessee and Tampa Bay to start the 2010 season. The Steelers finished that year with 12-4 record, winning the AFC North and falling to the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XLV.
